Colorless diamonds are also on demand and have sold at premium prices, but why are some diamonds pink? Nobody knows why as they were extremely difficult to study in the past because they were so scarce.

The color in pink diamonds is a topic that is questionable, although people who research this topic do believe that the reason lies in the atomic makeup of the diamond itself. Once only available to royalty the pink diamond is of a significant stature. Pink diamonds are quite rare, although orange, blue, red and green are considered the most rare. The origin of the color in pink and red diamonds still remains a mystery.

The rarity of color also has a great impact on it's price-tag. Pink and red diamond pricing figures are rarely disclosed to the public, though not uncommonly known to be hundreds to thousands of dollars per carat. If the diamond is even available at the time is also a huge factor. Production of the pink diamond has been on a downward spiral, despite the fact that recent the Argyle mine has been rehabilitated thus extending of life span.
