Tanzanite is a relatively new gem stone having its roots in the mineral zoisite. The discovery of tanzanite was made by a Maasai tribesman who mistakenly thought he had discovered a sapphire in 1967. Upon further discovery the stone was thought to be mystical by these tribesman because of its ability tio change color.
